Wordsmart scam
I got a call from wordsmart saying that my wife and son wanted a college prep course and it was up to me to say yes. So I made the mistake of giving him (Raymond Harding) my credit card information. When my wife told me that they called the day before and she told him that we were not interested i tried to call them back. The number they called from (213-221-****) is blocked with a message saying that it is disconnected due to fraudulent activity. They said I could get my money back but I doubt it. $187.50 a lot of money to give a thief.

Thank you for all the reviews on this site
I got the same type of call today stating my son had requested they contact me about this product. It did sound weird but they are smooth talkers. I told them to call me back later after I had a chance to talk to my son about it. My son googled reviews & he found this website with everyone's reviews. I want to thank each of every one of you for posting your comments. You saved me a major headache. When the representative called back I told him that my son had googled the reviews & that his company had a bad reputation. All he could say was that he had just had that conversation with his supervisor. Even the employees know they have a bad reputation.

Refused to give money back
My husband ordered it over the phone which was the first mistake. Then they kept sending and charging your credit card even though you did not ask for more. I called and they would not refund our money with the returns. I am stuck with this product we did not use. We called and said we wanted to return it and they said no. If my daughters SAT did not improve by 200 points with using it after she logged in so many hours then they would refund. We did not want it. I had a tutor they would not budge.

I think they changed their name
Are Wordsmart and Smart Tech the same company? I think they are the same company. They called me and told me my son had asked for their program, when I asked my son he knew nothing about it. I looked into the BBB and saw that there were many complaints about the company. I called to cancel my order to be told by a person that they were closed and could only take messages, I had to call back several times before my call was actually acknowledged and was give a big run around about cancelling. I was finally able to cancel with the manager I think her name was Fathe.

They Scam Because They Can" - Sully from Monsters Inc
They cold-call, they promise satisfaction or give $200 back. WRONG, then they want you to give the the "Code" from trying the CD - a DELAY TACTIC so they don't have to refund. They they send you the next CD - for $64. They charge your card before they even ship the CD. If you make the mistake of ordering, cancel immediately, don't fall for the "We need the code". Send the disks only, use a PO Certificate of Mailing or Certified. The value of this product is highly questionable, it is words taken from the dictionary. They of course hype this as the path to your child's success.

Please don't fall for the Wordsmart, ACT/SAT Prep software scam.
I received an advertisement for ACT/SAT prep test software and made the mistake of following up. This company managed to use misleading doublespeak to trick me into purchasing an additional subscription-based product - Wordsmart, using the credit card information I submitted for the ACT/SAT product. The ACT/SAT product was actually fairly weak itself, and failed to deliver the suggested results, possibly because my daughter is already a fairly strong student. However I never specifically asked for or used the other product, yet I was sent a few CD's over the following months, which I never used because I did not recall asking for them. Months later when reviewing charges I noticed that a monthly charge had been being made from this company for this secondary product. I attempted to have my card issuer reverse charges, but they slithered out of it, noting the carefully constructed wording of their sales pitch, and the carefully constructed cancellation policy that insures their legal ability to bilk customers. In retrospect it seems obvious I should have ignored them due to their bold claims about improved scores, and I definitely should have paid better attention to the spiel, but I would like to warn anyone who might happen upon this site that this company uses dishonest tactics to trick people out of their money. This is their primary reason for existence, and the products they offer are little more than a cover.

Their rep claimed that my daughter had requested more information about their product. I later asked her about this, and she doesn't recall asking for any such information. However, this guy called her by name and asked for her parents! After telling me about the software, the 4 point ACT score guarantee, and the $100 discount, he said that we could evaluate the software for 30 days... all he needed was a credit card number. I explained to him that I do not, under ANY circumstance, give out my card number on a call that I did not initiate. After all, I have no way of knowing whether this person is even truly affiliated with the company he claims to work for! The person immediately said something to the effect of, "well, you have protection through your card company... you can always have them cancel any charges", as if that is sufficient reason for me to give my number to anyone who calls! He then suggested that I could go to the website and order directly, BUT, I would lose the discount. This again raised my suspicions. One of the tactics used by scam artists is to place pressure on their marks to complete the transaction RIGHT NOW or risk losing money. I asked him directly, "So you're saying that unless I give you my credit card number on this phone call, I lose all chances of using the discount you offered." He refused to give me a direct answer. Instead, his reply was a rude, "Look, I don't have time to keep discussing this with you!" At this point, my mind was made up. Either this person doesn't represent the company, in which case, I'm not about to give him my card number, or he POORLY represents the company, and I'm not about to give him my card number, or this is the way the company does business... and I'm not about to give him my card number! From my point of view, this call had all the hallmarks of a scam: 1. It was a call that I did not solicit. 2. I was pressured to give access to my finances immediately or risk losing a potential discount. 3. When asked a direct question about the discount, I was not answered, and the person wanted to change the subject. To any discerning consumer, this is outrageous and indefensible. Spread the word! Any company that operates like this doesn't deserve your hard-earned money!

Listen To What They Tell You! The Devil Is In The Details!
I have had a FULL fledged experience with WordSmart and this review is to tell you the details in case you have gotten into bed with this Devil! When they place the initial sales call to you they tell you that your child wants this program. All you really hear, if you are not listening carefully, is that your child requested the program, it will raise their test scores, and there is a 30 day money back guarantee which includes all shipping costs. Here are the details, which they did indeed say to you but you did not hear! What they told you is that your child marked off some checkbox on a form at some college event held at your child's school. WordSmart then bought your contact information from a broker and is now bothering you with this ***. Simply put all you have to do now that you have bought the software is to call WordSmart, ask them which activities you have to complete ("evaluate") so that they will give you your money back, complete the activities, call them back, tell them the answers, listen to them tell you how *** you are for failing so miserably at the activities and why you really need to keep this software, then patiently wait for them to give you the Return Authorization number. Pack up the software and send it back. I did all of that at the end of August. Guess what I just realized a few minutes ago? THE BASTARDS DID NOT REFUND MY MONEY!! So I called them. Went through their song and dance, but I had all my information in front of me, and they assured me that they are "expediting" my refund to my credit card. Sooooo, a week from now I should finally have my refund.

Shame on them!
I get a call from WordSmart telling me that my son signed up for more information regarding scholarship and grant help and also for ACT/SAT prep. I remembered my son telling me he had signed up for scholarship info but nothing else. I was told that Alex Trebek sells this on the infomercial and that I am getting a $100 discount if I buy it now. I told the person I needed to think it over and asked that they call back. They said that they can't. I said that my son got a 24 on the ACT he took a year early and I think he would be OK when he took it again this spring. I was told that wasn't a good enough score, that I needed this program that would move his score up at least 4 points guaranteed. Still not good enough for a scholarship, blah blah blah. Already untrue as he has been informed by more than one school that he now qualifies. I said I needed to think about it and was told - Hey, if school is already paid for, no big deal, but if you need help..... I said that I didn't appreciate the hard sell and the guilt trip. He hung up on me. So I redialed the number, 858-200-****. Pressed 1 to talk to a representative regarding purchasing their product (not the do not call extension or the "if you have already purchased a product" extension - push the button to get the people that want to talk to you). I got THE SAME GUY on the phone. I told him I wanted a supervisor. He said that he had to laugh about the whole thing. I asked him if he was laughing at me. He said no, that he just wants to help people and help them save money at the same time. I told him that I didn't appreciate his tactics and that I got a 32 on my ACT's and felt pretty capable of helping my son find grants and scholarships (we have a free service in our town that does this for you). He then told me that I may have gotten a 32, but the test was a lot easier back then. By the time I was done with him, he was apologizing to me. I then made HIM sit on hold for a minute as I reviewed this site and texted my son and confirmed he didn't ask for this information. It is too bad that people take advantage of people' desire to help their children. Just remember that anyone who won't let you think about spending your money are people you don't want to spend money with. There are so many resources to help you. There are so many ACT materials on the internet that are free,k and search the ACT website first. Talk to your local high school or college counselors about how to get scholarships and don't stop looking. Our money is precious, and there are too many people who don't respect how hard we have worked for it. I have no problem sleeping nights, I can't speak for them. Shame on them.

Called my home this evening at 9:00 p.m. claiming that my 15-year-old son got in touch with them.
This lady, Barbara, called my home this evening at 9:00 p.m. saying that my son has shown an interest in ordering Word Smart to help him for college testing. However, my son has only just started 9th grade. Furthermore, my son would never give out our phone number to anyone, so I am not even sure how "Barbara" from Word Smart got our personal information, and what made her think that a 9:00 p.m. phone call to my home was appropriate. I am so glad that I was able to read reviews and learn about this Word Smart. The lady, Barbara, was pushy, spoke quickly, and became sarcastic with me when I had mentioned to her that my son would never give out our home number. I told her that I was not interested in her product and she told me, "Good Luck" before hanging up. I would never purchased from Word Smart. They do not do honest business and their phone skills tried to make me feel as if my son would not succeed in life without purchasing Word Smart. Not for us!!

Cold called, claiming my daughter was interested...
I was smooth talked into purchasing this package by one "Samson Novelozo". Man, this guy is slicker than dog *** Knew my name and my daughter's name and was a real schmoozer. Since the inception of the no call list, I don't get many calls like this; most o them are robo calls I just hang up on. Regardless, after mentioning the 30 day trial period and telling my how smart my daughter was, I foolishly signed up without any due diligence. Bad move. I was sitting right in front of my computer and a quick google of their name would have led me here. I did ask if I could call back and he said that wasn't possible. That should have tipped me off that there was something fishy going on. After the call was over, I did do a little research, found over 140 BBB complaints, a $10,000 fine from the state of Kansas for violating the DO Not Call act, and a host of pissed of people. I called my credit card company to dispute the charge, but it was still "pending" so I would have to call the company directly. I did, after looking up their homepage, and was able to get through after only about five minutes. The lady tried to get me to go for the 30 day trial period, then tried to sell it to me for 1/3 price, then 1/2 price, and finally agreed to cancel the order. The charge sat in pending status for a few days but is gone now. Phew! What a relief. So alls well that ends well, but I will be monitoring my charge card on a daily basis to ensure they don't try to reinstate the charge.

Listen to details before signing up!!
A representative called and said my son had expressed interest in Wordsmart software to prepare for his ACT/SAT. They actually had his name, grade, address, etc., so I listened to what the salesman had to say. He actually called while my so was at school, so I had no way to confirm if he really had expressed interest. I was promised 30 days to assess the software. My son had no interest in using it and never even installed it on his computer. When I tried to cancel, I was told I was already too late to cancel the second shipment and bill. Buyer BEWARE! This is a scam and the salesman is slick, slick, slick.

Buyer Beware!!!!
I just got a call a few minutes agon from Robert Clarke representing WORDSMART. He said my son checked off some site and said he was interested in their product. He gave me a great deal of imformation and indcated how this tool will guaranteed 200 pts increase in his SAT scores. Told me that I had a 30 day evaluation period and asked for my credit card #. When I refused to give me credit card #, he started the hard sell. Gave me all types of responses about how great the product is. I then went on line and saw all these complaints. Buyer Beware! Mary

Claimed to talk to my son....scam
Wow....run the other way. This company called me a week and a half ago claiming to have been in touch (I believe to have spoken to) my 16 year old son about SAT prep materials. They clearly indicated that he had requested this program and they just needed to talk to an adult to confirm the sale and get credit card info. I was at work and distracted so I assumed that my wife and son had a legitimate interest in this product so I accepted and paid. When the package arrived I called my wife and found out that neither she nor my son had any conversations via web or phone indicating they wanted this product. When I called to have it shipped back, they told me that they could have it returned minus my 17.95 shipping costs. IF I opened it and tried the cd's and didn't like it, THEN I could get my money back AND my shipping back. This is complete bull! So, if I try it and don't like it I can get my money and shipping back but, if I don't try it I forfeit my shipping cost! What a scam! Currently my original call is being reviewed and they will be getting back to me in 3 days with a decision. Terrible customer service....they should have said..."Sorry for the misunderstanding sir, we will be glad to refund the cost of the material and your shipping." ...NOPE...we are gonna fight for that I guess!

Scam - like columbia record club
Wordsmart is a scam. As noted by others, the very smooth rep called saying my daughter requested this program. She tried it, wanting very much to like it, but found it not up to her level> She is a very motivated student who already is a high scorer, and this was explained to the rep. The rep said even someone like her would benefit from the program. At $160 it didn't seem like a huge investment given that I thought we could return it. I took some time to return it, but I was unaware that they would be sending additional discs -- like the Columbia records of years ago, and billing for them all the while. They would not take even the unopened disc back and want to bill me for everything that I received. Beware of this scam group.

SmartPrep is a SCAM software company that tricks you into buying the software for the SAT practice. This software does not have the minimal requirements for practicing for the SAT.
They also charge your credit card company for other CDs that they send to you without your approval to be charged. Complaints are covered with a lot of lies, like the board of directors, the tape of your conversation that does not exist.
Do not buy anything from this company. BIG SCAMMERS!!

Smartprep is a scam, Do not get involved. After a hard sell we agreed to try it for 30 days, it was during the summer and we did not even open the package.
